I was finally able to finish the laundry/entry mudroom a few weeks ago, and I just love how it all turned out so I thought I would share the updates and the process it took to complete it!
The first step in updating this space was painting the cabinets, this was the most time intensive part. The cabinets were already painted so it was difficult to cover the existing paint but it was time consuming to wait for each side to dry. I did use a primer recommended by the paint store where I purchased the paint, that made it easier for the new color to cover and not have to apply so many coats. After I applied the primer it only took one coat of paint to cover with the color. There were some areas I needed to touch up but they were mostly covered by the one coat.
Once the cabinets were painted and the knobs were put on, I went ahead and painted the walls, I didn't use a primer on the walls and used two coats of paint that covered really well. For the most part, if you have a good paint and are using the correct paint brushes you won't need a primer. But highly suggest using a quality paint. I've always been a fan of Benjamin Moore paints and have used it multiple times in our home.
After the paint was completed in the laundry I went ahead and painted the entry way to match, this was a fairly easy room to paint but there was a lot of trim work. Again, I used a high quality brush to get the edges and corners that were tight and it all turned out great!
The final step was getting the tile wall up. This was a pretty easy process but the only challenge was cutting the tile. I did have my husband do that for me as I wasn't comfortable using a wet saw. He was so helpful in being able to measure and cut them for me. The other thing I would recommend would be to use already mixed grout and mortar. This made it less messy and easy to work quickly to get it done. I've done tile work before and had some experience but not much and found a few how to videos on YouTube that made it pretty easy. I love how the accent wall adds just enough character to this space and makes it unique to our home.
So if you are looking to add some updates to your home, painting cabinets and walls can make a big difference as well as adding a little tile accent wall. I hope you enjoyed this post and the small changes that we made to make our home a little more unique.
